“You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown”

Tickets are now on sale for the musical, “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown.” The musical is set for Friday-Sunday, March 31-April 2. Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for students. They may be purchased at the door or in advance from GHS office.

NTV Holiday Harmonies

MusicalNoteThe Gibbon choirs will be on the NTV “Holiday Harmonies” over the Christmas holiday. They will be on NTV at 7:18 pm on Christmas Eve and on FOX at 11:18 a.m. on Christmas Day. Thank you to all of the local sponsors and Happy Holidays from the Gibbon Vocal Music Department.

Musical Auditions

charlie-brownAuditions for the musical–“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”–are coming soon! Auditions will be held on Thursday, January 5, from 6:30-9:30 pm in the auditorium. Anyone interested in being on the tech team must come to the auditions. There will be a tech meeting from 6:30-6:45 pm. If you cannot come Thursday night, you must contact Mrs. Sinnard and come Friday, January 6, at 7:00 a.m.

Anyone in grades 7-12 may audition and you do NOT have to be in choir to audition for the musical. At the audition you need to bring a solo with you or be prepared to sing a familiar song with Mrs. Sinnard, read some lines, and act like “a kid.” Dancing is very minimal in this musical, so you will not have to dance in auditions. This is a very fun musical with 12 leads and an unlimited amount of ensemble members. If you have questions, please see Mrs. Sinnard.

All-Conference Volleyball Selections

volleyballCongratulations to Parker Kenton and Miranda Smith for being named to the 2016 Lou-Platte All-Conference Volleyball Team and to Sydni Kroll for being named honorable mention.

group-pic-2016-2The Gibbon One-Act Team begins their season on Friday, November 4, at the Loup City Parade of Plays. This year’s One-Act is “The Other Room.” The public performance is scheduled for Tuesday, November 22, at 7:00 pm.

Gibbon Hosting LouPlatte Choral Clinic

MusicalNoteGibbon is hosting the LouPlatte Conference Choral Clinic this Saturday, November 5th.  Approximately 240 high school vocal students will be on our campus. The concert is scheduled for 4:30 pm with admission being $3 per person. The public is welcome.

All-State Choir Selection

all-state-chrisCongratulations to senior, Christopher Anderson, for being selected to the Nebraska All-State Choir for the second year in a row. He will travel with Mrs. Sinnard to Lincoln on November 16-18 to perform with other students from across Nebraska who were selected. Congratulations Chris!

ZuZu Acrobats

The ZuZu Acrobats from Kenya (Eastern Africa) performed for the elementary and high school students today. This was one of the many Homecoming activities this week.

Gibbon’s Got Talent

“Gibbon’s Got Talent” is back! This week is the first round. There is a category for middle school, high school, and NEW this year is an “Open Category.” This is for any student grades 7-12 and interested staff members. Contact Mrs. Sinnard to make arrangements to come in and sing. The finals are Tuesday, October 18, at 7:00 pm in the auditorium.

FCCLA Students Earn Medals at Nationals

IMG_9724Congratulations to Brie Bailey, Morgan Wadkins-Meyer, Jessica Tomayo, and Michelle Guido for earning silver medals at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference held in San Diego, California. These students and their sponsor, Marlene Ronnfeldt, recently returned from nationals, where Brie and Morgan received a silver medal for their “Focus on Children” project teaching about the importance of good nutrition and Jessica and Michelle received a silver medal for their “Chapter in Review” display board, highlighting Gibbon’s 2015-2016 Chapter activities. Over 8,000 people attended this year’s National Leadership Conference. Congratulations!

 

Boys Track Team District Runner-up

state qualifiers and coachesCongratulations to the boys track team for finishing as District Runner-up at Southern Valley. Congratulations also to the four state qualifiers: Ozzy Rodriguez, shot put and discus; Jesse Walker, shot put; Tom Costello, 1600 meter run; and Miranda Smith, 800 meter run and 1600 meter run. The state track meet is held in Omaha at Burke Stadium on Friday-Saturday, May 20-21. Good Luck and Go Buffs!

Fine Arts Awards Night

Fine Arts Awards Night is scheduled for Thursday, May 5, at 7:30 pm in the auditorium. Please plan to come to celebrate and honor all of the students in the areas of art, band, choir, dance, drama, and speech.

FCCLA Students Qualify For Nationals

SLC 2016 033Several FCCLA members competed at the STAR State Leadership Conference on April 3-5. Four students advanced to Nationals, which will be held in San Diego, CA this summer. Those students are Morgan Wadkins-Meyer, Brie Bailey,  Michelle Guido, and Jessica Tomayo. Congratulations!

Congratulations also to the following students for receiving medals at the state competition: Noemi Escandon, Kiarha Yepez-Meza and Yulisa Vargas–bronze medals; Mento Urbina, Maira Gaona, Addie Plautz, and Samantha Avina–silver medals; Daniela Corona-Martinez, Miracle Kenkel, Michelle Guido, Jessica Tomayo, Morgan Wadkins-Meyer, and Brie Bailey–gold medals.

Footloose 2016

Show times this weekend for the musical are Friday-Saturday, April 1-2, at 7:30 pm and Sunday, April 3, at 2:00 pm. Admission is $6.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. The Fine Arts Boosters will be offering a BBQ meal for $5.00 per plate beginning one hour ahead of each performance.

American Cancer Society Donation

All Stars & Cancer 16 005The FCCLA and FBLA presented a check for $1,459 to the American Cancer Society this week. The money raised was from the FCCLA scrapbook retreat and “Pink Out” t-shirt/sock sales. Great job, students, and thank you to all those who made donations.

Items Needed For Drama Department

Footloose+PromThe drama department is in need of 25 laundry baskets. Each actor in the “Footloose” musical needs a laundry basket to put their costumes in throughout the musical and at the end of the night.
