Catch The Action–Basketball and Wrestling

Two upcoming athletic events can be heard on Classic Hits 98.9 FM or online at–the Gibbon versus Amherst girls and boys basketball game can be heard live on Thursday, January 18 (tonight), beginning at 6:00 and 7:45 pm. Also on Saturday, January 20, beginning at 2:00 pm the Lou-Platte Conference Wrestling Finals can be heard live. Good luck and Go Buffs!

Parents Night–Boys/Girls Basketball

Parents night for the girls and boys basketball teams will be Friday, January 26th.  Introductions for the girls and their parents will be right before the 20-minute  warm-up of the girls varsity game and introduction for boys and their parents will be right before the 20-minute warm-up for the boys varsity game.  Parents will receive letters in the mail in the near future with details.

Basketball Games At Centura–Schedule Adjustment

Due to the Centura teams being limited on the number of junior varsity quarters they can play this Friday, January 19, the girls junior varsity game will be just 2 quarters, played in their small gym and the boys junior varsity will be only 3 quarters, played in the bigger gym. Both games begin at 4:30 pm. With the adjustment in quarters being played the girls varsity game will begin at 5:45 pm and the boys varsity will begin at 7:30 pm. This is a change to the calendar.

Wrestling Parents Night

Parents night for the wrestling team is scheduled for Thursday, January 18, during the dual with Kearney Catholic. More information will be provided in the near future.

Basketball Games Reschedule Date

The basketball games versus Minden that were postponed in December due to the weather have been rescheduled for Friday, February 9, in Gibbon.  The junior varsity games will start at 4:30 pm.  The girls varsity will start at approximately 6:00 pm with boys varsity to follow.

Community Chili Cook-off

The Community Chili Cook-off will be held on Friday, January 26, during the Gibbon versus Fillmore Central basketball games.

Additions to Calendar

The freshmen girls basketball team will play at Adams Central this Saturday, January 6, at 9:00 a.m. On Tuesday, January 23, both the freshmen boys and girls teams will play at home versus Kenesaw at 6:00 p.m. These games are additions to the calendar.

Tonight’s Basketball Games Postponed

Tonight’s basketball games (Thursday, December 21) versus Minden have been postponed due to the weather. A reschedule date has not been set at this time.

Basketball Holiday Tournament Schedule

The varsity basketball teams will compete in the Elm Creek Holiday Tournament on Friday-Saturday, December 29-30. Gibbon will play Doniphan-Trumbull in the first round on Friday. The girls will play at 2:45 pm followed by the boys at 4:15 pm. See below for a full schedule:

NSAA 5-Day Moratorium

The mandatory NSAA 5-day moratorium beings Saturday, December 23, and ends Wednesday, December 27. No high school students are allowed to practice, work out, lift weights, hold an open gym, etc. at the school during this time. Practice and work outs may resume on Thursday, December 28.

Schedule Change–Basketball Games vs. Elwood

The boys and girls junior varsity basketball teams will only play 2 quarters at Elwood on Tuesday, December 19. The girls jv game will start at 3:30 and the boys jv at 4:15, with the varsity games following. With this schedule change the girls varsity will start at approximately  5:00 – 5:15 pm and the boys varsity at approximately 6:45 pm.

Saturday Basketball “Catch The Action”

Listen to the Gibbon versus Wood River basketball games on Classic Hits 98.9 KKPR.COM or listen online at Platte River Preps on Saturday, December 16. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 girls varsity and approximately 4:00 for boys varsity.

Light Show and “Black Out Night”-January 12

Friday, January 12, has been designated as a “Black Out Night” at the home basketball game versus Doniphan-Trumbull. The GHS Shimmers will be doing a light show during halftime of the boys varsity game and would like everyone to dress in black.

Silver Lake Game Time

On Tuesday, December 12, the girls varsity basketball game will start at approximately 5:45 pm. The girls junior varsity will play only 2 quarters and the boys junior varsity will play only 3 quarters.

Wrestling Team Parent Meeting

There is a wrestling team parent meeting scheduled for Thursday, November 16, at 6:30 pm in Coach Andersen’s classroom. All parents of current high school wrestlers are encouraged to attend.

LPC All-Conference Volleyball Selections

Congratulations to Parker Kenton and Miranda Smith for being selected to the Lou-Platte All Conference Volleyball Team and to Sydni Kroll for being named Honorable Mention.

LPC All-Conference Cross Country Teams

Congratulations to the cross country runners who were named to the 2017 Lou-Platte All Conference Cross Country Teams: Jade Bentley, girls 1st team; Alissa Bailey, girls 2nd team; Nathan Holcomb, boys 1st team; and Izaiah Gomez, boys 1st team.

Volleyball Subdistricts Announced

The subdistrict brackets have been released by the NSAA. Gibbon will compete in the C1-10 Subdistrict held at Kearney High School on Monday, October 31. Girls Golf All Conference Awards

Congratulations to Bailee Labs for being awarded First Team All Conference in golf this fall and to Faith Yockey for being awarded Honorable Mention.
