New Scholarships Posted

The Gibbon Wrestling Scholarship and the PEO Scholarship are now available to graduating seniors. The application and cover sheet can be found under the Students tab Scholarship link at the top of this page. Deadline dates are posted as well.

College Fair

Education Quest will be holding a College Fair at the Grand Island Pinnacle Bank Expo Center on Sunday, March 26th, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. for all 9th through 12th graders. If you would like to attend, you need to register online — please see Ms. Neubauer for details. This is an excellent opportunity for juniors especially to talk to several colleges and begin making plans for visits to the campuses.

Scholarship Opportunity

The Gibbon Educational Foundation Scholarships are now available. Applications and guidelines may be downloaded from the 2017 Scholarships link under the Students Tab on this page. The deadline for these scholarships is Friday, April 7, by 3:00 pm. As a reminder, applications for the McGregor Scholarships and the Roush Scholarship are due by March 15.

ACT Test For All Juniors

On the morning of Wednesday, April 19th, ALL juniors will be taking the ACT test here at the high school.  The state has replaced the 11th grade NESA test with the ACT test. The scores from this test may be used to send to colleges if the student so desires. If you have any questions, please contact the school.

Old Yearbooks Available For Sale

High school yearbooks from 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 are available for sale at reduced prices. These may be purchased in the high school office. The 2014-2015 yearbooks are $10 and the 2015-2016 are $35.

iPad Collection – 7th-11th Grades

We will be collecting iPads from all students 7th-11th graders on May 19th and May 23rd.  checkbox-303113_1280

  • May 19th – 11th, 10th and 9th grades
  • May 23rd – 8th & 7th grades

We want to collect the iPad, in their full case, and the cord/brick (School issued) for each iPad.   Students will be charged accordingly for damages/missing parts as follows:

  • Cord – $15
  • Brick – $15
  • Case – $35 (full-price of case for missing screen cover)
  • iPad Screen – approx. $120
  • iPad – approx. $500


Continuing Education Scholarship Opportunity

scholarshipThe Gibbon Education Association is awarding a $500 Continuing Education Scholarship to a college junior or senior who is pursuing a degree in education. The guidelines and application can be found under the Scholarship tab at the top of this page. The deadline for submitting an application is August 5, 2016.

Scholarship Deadlines

scholarshipSeniors are reminded that several scholarship deadlines are approaching. The Gibbon Fine Arts Booster Scholarship is due Monday, April 18; the Gibbon Education Association (GEA) Scholarship is due Thursday, April 21; and the Etta Smith Scholarship is due Tuesday, April 26. All applications are located under the Students Tab at the top of this page.

Post Prom Form

Please complete this Post Prom Form if attending Post Prom. The Gibbon Boosters will pay the $10 fee for each Gibbon student that is attending Post Prom. Anyone bringing and out-of-town date will need to pay $10 to the office by April 20, 2016, for them to attend.

New scholarships (Gibbon Chamber of Commerce, GEA, Gibbon Fine Arts, and P.E.O.) have been added to the list on this website. Several scholarship applications are due March 31 and April 1. Seniors are reminded to check the Scholarships page often under the Students tab at the top of this page.

Deadline Extended–Kearney Jaycees Scholarship

The deadline for submitting an application for the Kearney Jaycees Scholarship has been extended until Monday, March 21. Please submit completed applications to the high school guidance counselor.

College Representative

college visitsThe UNL college representative will be in the high school library on Thursday, March 17, at 8:00 a.m. to visit with any interested juniors or seniors and their parents.

Homecoming Week Upon Us


Dress up days for Homecoming Week are as follows: Monday — Twin Day; Tuesday — Fake Injury Day; Wednesday — Class Color Day; Thursday — Favorite Celebrity Day; Friday — School Spirit Day.

Activities planned for the week: Monday — Pep Rally at 3:00; Wednesday — Power Puff Volleyball, Olympic Activities, and Powder Puff Football from 2:00 – 3:26; Friday — Football game vs Bridgeport 7:00 pm Kickoff; Saturday — Homecoming Dance 9:00 – midnight; Royalty Coronation — 10:00 pm.

Early Dismissal Tomorrow

UNL Representative

The 2015 Buffies

On the last day of school the 7-12th graders celebrated their technology successes with a culminating awards show in the auditorium. Great job GPS students!

Gibbon Students Win at Invention Convention

Invention ConventionOn April 14th, Gibbon Elementary participated in the Regional Invention Convention held at ESU 10 in Kearney.  The students representing our school were Daniela Corona, Marlene Avina, Taylor Schubauer, Allissa Bailey, Zoe Anderson, and Gelsy Rivas.  The girls all put in long hours after school to complete their inventions and to perfect their presentations prior to the event.  Daniela Corona and Marlene Avina’s invention, “The Lipanical”, a mechanical pencil and lip balm in one, received at first place medal.  Congratulations to all of the participants, they did an excellent job representing Gibbon!
